What does freedom look like? (May 17, 2004)

I have to hope, I have to believe, that this was Brown vs. Board of Education. If I were to stretch an analogy, I’d call Gavin Newsome the Rosa Parks of the movement. What happened tonight in Cambridge was the unquestionably legal version.

Freedom looks a little like this.

And this.

And this.

And when the clock ticks midnight, and the first couple (not yet married, but soon to be so) comes out of City Hall? Like this.

More after I’ve slept. Being there was one of the nicest things I’ve done in a long, long time.
