Look, ma, I upgraded to Movable Type 3.1! It’s cool. I am pondering my commenting options; it seems not impossible that I will set the blog to post TypeKey-authenticated comments immediately while screening non-TypeKey-authenticated comments; the legitimate non-TK comments would still get posted, just with a bit of a delay. Or maybe not, since I haven’t had a ton of comment spam recently. Thoughts, bearing in mind that the easiest thing for all of you (no screening, no worries) requires more effort on my part (deleting spam comments)?

If I knew what Type-key authenticated comments were, I probably wouldn’t mind. Maybe.
If I knew what TypeKey-authenticated comments were, I’d probably be more helpful.
Enlarge your ass! Grow hair… on your ass! Just pennies a day!
Sorry about the double posting. My browser spazzed and didn’t show the first one when I checked.
I found my comment spam went down when I started marking older postings as comments-closed. The spammers seem to hit your old archives, so when you close them off, they maybe go somewhere else.
I haven’t had comment spam since I switched this way. Maybe try it and see?
Much to my pleasure, it turns out that MT 3.1 automatically blocks comments on old entries — so I’m getting that already, which is cool. And when I do get the occasional valid comment I can unscreen it.
Now that I have a typekey login, I don’t really mind, but you should do what more regular commenters want.
I’ve been using that approach for three months, and it seems to discourage the comment spammers nicely, without putting off too many people from commenting.
