June Moving Check-In

Categories: Personal

I’m sitting on the Coho Ferry on the way to Victoria; I’ve got one last Ingress key drop to make before we leave the area. Admittedly this is also serving the purpose of checking off one more ferry we hadn’t tried in the past. There’s something kind of romantic about driving to a small city on the edge of America to take a small ferry to a city that always feels like a lost outpost of the British Empire. Naming their big luxury hotel the Empress probably has something to do with that feeling.

Gorgeous views of the Olympic Peninsula on the way over. I’ll try and edit a picture in later.

Not much to say about move prep. We’re trying a U-Haul pod this time, after some research. Dates are locked in. I’m more stressed than I need to be about packing; we’ve already made a lot of progress. Nonetheless, I’m gonna have to build a day by day plan for the last couple of weeks to make myself relax.

This trip checks off one of the “wouldn’t it be nice” boxes for Washington. We’ve done everything that we considered mandatory. (Hello, Space Needle!) I don’t think we’re gonna make the Grand Coulee Dam day trip; I’d like to see it but it’s a long drive out and back for the sake of engineering tourism.

It’s a weird liminal time. We have enough to do so that I’m not digging into all the exciting new habits I want to start on. I have done a couple of massive Scarecrow Video rental weeks because I’m gonna miss going in there so much. Rent-by-mail will be a lifesaver, it’s just not as convenient.
