Fair Enough

Categories: Personal

As is strictly obligatory in Minnesota, we visited the State Fair this week. Good way to burn a day while waiting for our things to arrive, although the minimalist lifestyle wasn’t so bad. We missed the TV, though, since it’s our only way to watch movies together. Anyhow, the bus ride to the Fair was super-easy and we went on a traditionally low-attendance day, which means it was only slightly jam-packed.

It was fun! I’m not sure if we’ll go every year but the sky tram was good even if you grew up on ski lifts. The America 250 Ferris Wheel was great. For the record, that’s the bi-partisan 250th anniversary effort, not the MAGA one. Each gondola was themed to a President and we got the James Garfield gondola. Whoever wrote the text for the voiceover had a sense of humor; the primary point of the brief spiel was that Garfield’s big accomplishment was reforming the civil service to remove political patronage. They did not mention his death.

The food lived up to the hype. I tried the Hmong corn dog – too rich for me right now but very tasty – and split a French Chouxnut Sundae with S. I can’t eat like that regularly but the taste was worth the lingering discomfort, and we sure walked enough to handle the blood sugar spike.

The competitive baked goods display was insane.

We also liked the quilting; we did not see the famous crop art display because the line was well over an hour. If we do go back again another year we’ll have to be there at 9 AM.
