GameHole Con was great! I really like the size (somewhere between 5K and 10K people) and the variety of games was good enough for me to play something interesting every slot I wanted to fill. I did not fill every slot. Also S. and I managed to get into most of our games together, which was nice – I was a bit worried about the signup system resulting in us being split. I made sure to hit the process button within a minute after signups opened up, with a populated wishlist, which probably helped. We’re going back next year.
Since I played in seven games, I’m not going to try and do even a paragraph per game. Instead I’ll just say something I loved about each of my characters, which is also a contribution to the “talk about how to be a good player” challenge/meme going around right now. Invest in your little people!
- Clara was a snappy, smart-ass 1930s journalist who could have been played by any of the great actresses you’d imagine from that description
- Kempy finally found a legal application for his only real skill: making his words sound like the only possible way to interpret the world, and he’s secretly delighted by being a Ballad Hunter
- Fracassa wasn’t afraid to jump off his horse into a tree just because he’s the size of a small hill and the landing would likely hurt; I’ve rarely played a character who is that enthusiastic about just GOING
- Sigmondur was so happy to meet kids who understood his desire to get the fuck out of Iceland and be a bard somewhere; if they’d confessed earlier he would have just headed out with them on the spot, screw the mission
- Jack would have actually been a pretty good actor if he hadn’t screwed up and kept at it; he needed one of those high school drama teachers who cared, you know?
- Bord used to read the Fate of his fellow adventurers while they slept, and he has a big chart in his pack where he tracks how it changes, because he wants to understand what the gods won’t tell him
- Simon is going to wind up sabotaging Archive investigations at this rate; he sees no value in figuring out what’s going on if it’s just going to lead to more danger
