Whoops, let’s add one to the Best of the Rest list: Down With Love, easily the best romantic comedy of the year. (I thought Intolerable Cruelty suffered from being written by people who were not the Coen brothers, despite being a fun trifle.) Witty and charming and full of banter, plus it took itself (and its genre) exactly seriously enough.

Gonna have to beg to differ, specifically because of the ending. It got too baroque for me.
I really wanted to like it, too.
I know; I’m about the only person who was a big fan of this one. I think I have an unfortunate weakness for banter.
Not true that you are the only big fan — I really enjoyed it, and my wife loved it.
Bought the DVD for the girlfriend — and I wanted to like it far more than I did. Overpraised, and not nearly enough laughter.
